Are you looking to spend a weekend in Prince Edward County? Prince Edward County is one of the best places to visit if you are looking to have a unique and memorable weekend getaway. This charming island is one of the gems of Southern Ontario, located just two hours east of Toronto.
Fast becoming Ontario’s hot spot for beautiful scenery, fantastic food, wine and more, CN Traveller even named it “Canada’s Coolest Island Hideout”. Come here to escape the city, relax and have fun! There are a lot of reasons why you should experience all that Prince Edward County has to offer you. So, here is a great itinerary for a perfect weekend getaway.
It’s Friday Night – time to go beer tasting! However, before you do any of that, you should have some dinner first. In that case, you should visit the Midtown Brewing Company.
Midtown is newly opened brewery founded by British expat Paul Lees along with Mark Andresky. The brewery is not only a place where you’ll find the best tasting beers but also fresh produce and tasty local dishes (watch out for buck-a-shuck oyster specials!). The place features a taproom, restaurant and a retail store where we loved picking out local cheeses and meats to have for cocktail hour. The owner even insisted we have another beer while we waited for fresh bread to finish baking to take with us!
A good morning to-do after a good night in Midtown Brewing would be a ride visiting all the different antique stores scattered all over Prince Edward County. On that note, you should first head to Ideal Bike, Prince Edward County’s leading bike centre. They don’t only sell but also rent all kinds of bikes that will make your visits to all the antique treasures in Prince Edward County. We love Dead People's Stuff antique store -- the perfect place to find that vintage barcart to impress your guests or taxidermic animal to make up a story to go along with...
Prince Edward County is Ontario’s fastest growing wine region that you will find more 35 winemakers in the region offering you varying tastes. Here, you can choose to taste and learn about a variety of wines (often for as little as $3 for 5 wine tastings), or enjoy a glass or bottle of your choosing. Some of our favourites are The Old Third Vineyard, Stanners Vineyard and Norman Hardie Winery, where you must have lunch at their wood-fired pizza restaurant. We’re still thinking about their mushroom pizza with truffle oil!
Finish the afternoon relaxing at North Beach Provincial Park, with a bottle of wine you fell in love with on your tasting tour this afternoon.
Make sure to make a dinner reservation at Drake Devonshire Inn, one of the best inns in the county with friendly staff and delicious food and wine. The Drake Devonshire’s restaurant has been named one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada, and is not to be missed! Be sure to arrive early enough so you can still enjoy cocktails outside and watch the sun set over the water. After dinner, go to Stache on Main Piano Lounge & Gallery to enjoy live music and a boogie.
You spent the night late, so you must have slept in. Don’t worry. There is a perfect place for you to go for brunch. You can visit Agrarian Bistro, a place offering a diverse selection of rustic style dishes you will love, a very friendly atmosphere, not to mention amazing live music.
In the afternoon, you can go for a visit in Kinsip Spirits, formerly 66 Gilead Distillery, and experience a distillery tour. Kinsip Spirits is Prince Edward County’s popular farm-based distillery offering highest quality spirits from pine vodka to duck island rum and other premium spirits you will want a taste before you get back to town and face a hectic weekday yet again.
